Riga

Riga is a Baltic capital where Art Nouveau meets medieval charm, and where the Daugava River frames one of Europe's most vivid old towns. The city pulses with creative energy — its streets lined with early-1900s apartment buildings in swirling geometric patterns (the world's largest concentration), its markets thick with amber and rye bread, its music venues and galleries alive with contemporary Baltic culture. Riga doesn't whisper; it invites you in with color, sound, and a generous nightlife. You'll find yourself wandering cobblestone lanes between spired guild houses, ducking into cozy cellar restaurants for gray peas and smoked fish, climbing bell towers for views across the red-tiled old town. The city moves at a human pace — bike-friendly, walkable, affordable — and its people are wryly witty and deeply proud. Worth it for the light in summer, the medieval soul of the center, and the chance to experience a European capital that feels genuinely alive and undiscovered.
