Perched on Yaoundé's highest hill, Mvolyé is where German Pallottine missionaries built their permanent mission around 1900, on land the Ewondo had long avoided for a great rock said to loom there. Today the hilltop gives sweeping views over the capital's rooftops and forested valleys, a quiet counterpoint to the city hum below.
